Every Staff Member Owns...
A TBR List / Books They Haven't Read
Whether staff members are book worms or book dragons, every staff member owns a book, or 100, that they haven't read or a TBR list brimming with exciting new titles. Like you, we just cannot help it! We also get drawn in by BookTok, the latest Instagram trends, or suckered in my that stunning new cover or gorgeous sprayed edges! It's so pretty!

A Pet, or Two, or Three, or Maybe 7
No explanation is really needed here! Everyone needs a pet or two, even if it is simply a collection of pet rocks, to curl up with while enjoying a good book or relaxing after a long day. The presence of a pet can transform a house into a warm home filled with love, companionship, chaos, or maybe you feel you need your very own overlord.. sorry, I meant cat. Cat. Not overlord. Cat.
Even the library fairies have a variety of pets residing in the building! A gargoyle, dragon, lion, owl, and bunny all assist in guarding the library and entertaining the fairies after it closes.
And of course, we could never forget Luna!

A Favorite Work Pen/Pencil
As staff members go about their day, pens, highlighters, and even favorite pencils become essential. Staff often carry their preferred pens with them as they move from one place to another, sometimes keeping them in their pockets for safekeeping. Some staff members prefer a specific brand for writing, while others enjoy pens with amusing little sayings.

Bad Eyes
Although many staff members are enthusiastic readers, reading itself isn't solely responsible for the abundance of eyeglasses and contacts in the building. Some staff were born with vision issues, while others developed changes in their eyesight over time. Research indicates that adopting proper reading habits can help alleviate temporary eye strain. It's recommended to take regular breaks (every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds), ensure sufficient lighting, read at a comfortable distance (14-18 inches), adjust your screen settings if you are reading on a device, and, of course, have regular check-ups with an eye doctor. While these habits won't eliminate the need for glasses or contacts, they can help reduce eye strain that may lead to temporary fatigue, headaches, or blurred vision.

A Favorite Bookmark
There are numerous ways to mark your progress in your latest read, some of which are library approved, and others are not recommended - please don't dog ear the pages! Yikes! We 've encountered just about everything here at the library. Items like debit cards, library cards, gum wrappers, business cards, bills, post-its with doodles and book quotes, and even to-do lists have all been discovered in returned books. Don't worry! Important items are always returned to their owners. Our staff also have their favorite bookmarks, some of which are handmade or bought from cherished locations. Interestingly, quite a few staff members use their checkout receipts as placeholders until they come back.
