Friends of the Library Book Store

The Friends of the Library sell gently used books, DVD/Blu-rays, Audiobooks, & CDs.  The Friends continually stock the Friends Book Shop located in the Lobby of the library.  The Friends of the Library also host 2 large book sales each year, one in the Spring & again in the Fall.  All proceeds from the Friends Book Shops benefit the library by helping to fund special programs and/or supplies for the library.  ​

Donations

  • Hi-Lo books for children, jr. high, young adult, and adults

  • Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) - Kenney Little Free Library project - monetary donation plus an offer to donate books as needed to keep the library stocked once built.

​Key Goals for 2025 include: raising money for a cover for the outdoor seating area on the library's green space, Mango Language subscription, volunteering with Encore to clean out and organize their book section.

Interested in volunteering in the Friends of the Library organization?  The Friends of the Library meet on the first Saturday of every month at 10AM in the Activity Room on the Children's Floor of the library.  No dues are required.

Minutes for meeting September 6, 2025

 

ATTENDEES:

14 Members plus 3 representatives of the library: Bobbi Perryman, Melissa and Lucas Snow

Program Updates

​

Summer Reading Program: Melissa Snow was there to thank the Friends for all the help with the Summer Reading Program, the work and the funding

  • Program was record setting.

  • Last year 2024, 804 participants, this year 2025, 843 participants.

  • Completion rate 45%

  • Next year’s theme: Plant a seed

 

Hygiene Kits Update

  • Big success. Gave away 14 men and 16 women’s kids

  • No additional funding needed at this time

  • Rolling approval for hygiene kits as needed

 

Spanish speak reading collection

  • Library now has available books in Spanish for our Spanish speaking community. Adult and children’s books available.

    • The library is working with Nicole from the school to help in translations of library card forms. It was noted that in our community there are approximately 350 people who speak languages other than English as their first language

 

Additional Program updates presented by Bobbi Perryman as well as a fiscal year end summary

  • Quick Read books are being used, turnover 1.7 per book.

  • Adult, Young Adult and children’s books

  • Mango language doing well including the sign language lessons and workshop

  • Increase in Program attendance

  • Increase in digital resources use

HVAC/Concrete update by Lucas Snow

  • Concrete work will be completed Wed, 9/10, for new HVAC Units

  • Books that are in storage for the book sale will be moved early by Lucas and Trevor to allow for HVAC workers

  • Concrete for new pavilion area will be completed before Apple and Pork Festival

 

Radio Podcast

  • WHOW highlighted Friends of the Library and what we do with the help of Bobbi Perryman and Ron Spraque

 

Next Big Library Event

  • Halloween – more info to come

  • Motion to approve minutes from August meeting, Tracey and 2nd-Lena

 

Treasurer’s Report

  • Book store brought in $100 in August

  • Opening balance $9,665.57

  • Debit – reimbursement to Debbie for pizza party snacks

  • Closing balance $9,696.65

Hygiene Kits

  • Due to the success and need of the hygiene kits, motion made to reimburse the library for August expenses. Motion made by Katrina, 2nd by Jean. All in favor

 

Hartland Bank

  • Savings CD matured and in bank account due to payments needed for concrete work.

  • Will review options for re-investing in another CD

 

Upcoming Events

  • Wednesday, Sept 10th: Monarch butterflies adult information class

  • Saturday, Sept 20th Butterfly release

  • Helpers needed for both events

ASL Club

  • Meetings on all Mondays in October 6:00 pm

 

Clintonia Theater

  • Bobbie Perryman and Katrina Held went to the community meeting on helping to save our local movie theater

    • Idea presented that would help theater and library

      • Read books and watch corresponding movie

      • Friends would pay for the theater rental

      • $400 earmarked for covering the cost of the theater rental

      • Discussion on book and movie would follow

    • Need ideas for more movies men would enjoy

    • Event could possibly be held quarterly

    • Theater handles copyright issues

  • Motion to approve Jean and 2nd, Danna. All in favor

 

Apple and Pork Festival September 27th and 28th

  • As of Aug, 18 spaces have been booked

    • 12 spaces still available

    • $85 for 10 x 10 for the weekend

  • Food needs to be pre-packaged

  • Library and Education/conservation booths under new pavilion

  • Library will need help with garbage pick up at festival.

  • Friends grp is not having a separate booth this year. Flyers will be at the library table

​

Book Sale Friday, October 24th and Saturday the 25th

  • Friday hours 9 am to 6 pm, Saturday hours 9 am to 1 pm

  • Need helpers to amend signs

  • Possibly work on signs on craft day, Sept 13th or Oct 18th or next meeting, October 4th

  • Students not helping this year due to HVAC project

  • Thursday, Oct 23rd from 3pm to 7 pm used for set up

    • Continued use of smaller boxes to help with weight maintenance

  • October meeting to focus on Book Sale

  • Education discount remains; $2 a bag on Saturday, $1 a bag on Friday

Re-Structuring Committee

  • Ron and Lisa helping on Committee regarding 501-C3 preparation and updating bylaws

  • Application process expected to be 3 to 5 months

 

Letter to the Editor

  • Good response from letter to the Editor. Letter composed by Ron, Tracy and Nrupa

  • Sub committee approved library funding pending Federal Funding decision

  • Encouraged members to continue to reach out to government representatives to encourage their support

 

Pavilion

  • Quotes from vendor for the outside donor plaque is $1300

  • Quote for plaque for indoors $200

  • There will be 20 names on the plaque

  • Possible use of a picture with plaque for indoors

  • Pending additional quotes

  • Pavillion will be named. Possible names:

    • Mini Warner

    • Louise Rose

  • Community is being asked to vote on the name

 

Homecoming week

  • Library participating in window decorating for Homecoming week

  • Homecoming committee for school has a window decorating contest
